Celebrate the Holiday Season in Carrollton

Post Date:11/20/2020 12:22 PM

Christmas-at-the-Perry-imageThe City of Carrollton has a festive lineup of socially-distanced, holiday fun and invites all residents to enjoy the sights and sounds of the season. This year’s activities are especially designed with safety in mind.

The annual Santa on the Square event has moved to be mostly virtual, but there are still many exciting activities planned. The fun starts early with a pre-event mobile scavenger hunt and a virtual ugly sweater contest beginning Saturday, November 28. Sign up early to interact from the comfort of your own home on Saturday, December 5 with a webcam chat with Santa Claus, himself. A complete list of virtual activities is listed below, and kids, remember to send your letters to the North Pole. Santa placed a mailbox in Downtown Carrollton through Tuesday, December 8 to make sure he receives your requests.

A few of Santa’s elves have also set up shop at the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum where photo opportunities abound, and the fun won’t stop until school break is over in January. Pick up a Grab & Go Kit of activities during the Library’s Twelve Days of Winter Break and don’t miss the Winter Reading Challenge for all ages beginning Monday, December 21.

CHRISTMAS AT THE A.W. PERRY HOMESTEAD MUSEUM – FREE
The A.W. Perry Homestead Museum (1509 N. Perry Road) will be decorated in traditional Victorian fashion and will open after hours on December 3, 10, and 17 from 5:30-8 p.m., so individuals and families can tour the Perry Homestead and experience the holiday spirit in festive lights and decorations. Children will receive a goody bag.

Don’t tell anyone, but the staff at the Perry Museum received a call for assistance from Santa Claus, and some elves from the North Pole have turned a few rooms of the Perry Homestead into workshop areas. In return, the elves decorated Pearl Perry Gravley Park with lights for some unique photo opportunities. Bring the whole family to stroll through the Museum grounds and see how the staff at the Perry is helping the elves get Santa ready for his big night.

The event is divided into 15, 10-minute sessions each night. The first session begins at 5:30 p.m. and the last starts at 7:50 p.m. One person signs up for the household and indicates the number of people attending. There is a maximum of 10 per household. Preregistration is required at form.jotform.com/203234771156149.

Stop by either the Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road) or the Hebron & Josey Library (4220 N. Josey Lane) to pick up the 12 Days Grab & Go Kits for school-aged children. WRC-Artwork_CMYKvertLIBRARY WINTER READING CHALLENGE
Readers of all ages can engage in a reading challenge from the Carrollton Public Library during those slow winter months when a good book can mean taking part in an adventure without leaving the comfort of a cozy chair. Participants will be divided into age groups; a small prize will be given for completing goals; and entries will be given for one drawing per age-group at the end of the challenge. The challenge runs from Monday, December 21 through Sunday, February 21. Register at carrolltonlibrary.readsquared.com beginning Tuesday, December 1.

Due to COVID-19 limitations, Carrollton’s popular Photos with Santa, An Old-Fashioned Christmas, Downtown Santa Dash, the Harry Potter Yule Ball, and Winter Wonderland, along with the Brookhaven Bell Choir Concert, and the Carrollton Wind Symphony Holiday Concert have all been cancelled.

Residents are reminded to follow the State’s guidelines regarding gathering sizes, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. Governor Abbott said, “Large gatherings are a clear contributor to the rise in COVID-19 cases. Restricting the size of group gatherings will strengthen Texas’ ability to corral this virus and keep Texans safe.”

Individuals aged 65 or older are at a higher risk of COVID-19 and should stay at home as much as possible. Large gatherings, even those held outside, pose a significant risk to this population.

The City encourages everyone to consider safety when planning Christmas activities. If you plan on visiting a friend or relative, wear a mask, practice social distancing, and make sure to wash hands frequently.
