Carrollton Issues Disaster Declaration

Post Date:02/17/2021 5:17 PM

City of Carrollton Mayor Kevin Falconer signed a local state of disaster declaration for the City due to the ongoing severe winter weather.

The declaration allows the City to access state and federal emergency assistance as the community faces challenges brought on by power outages and reductions in water and natural gas. The declaration was adopted on Tuesday, February 16 and will last seven days unless it is extended by City Council approval.

Under the declaration, Carrollton’s Emergency Operations Plan activates which allows the City to mobilize resources and personnel to respond to the immediate threat of life. Additionally, the City is exempt from the bidding process as typically required by law in order to purchase items to protect residents of the City.

Governor Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration for all 254 counties on Friday, February 12. The White House issued a Federal Emergency Declaration for Texas on Sunday, February 14.
