Carrollton Holds Paws on the Square Event to Benefit Local Pets
Bring the family (both furry and otherwise) to Downtown Carrollton (1106 S. Broadway Street) for a tail-wagging good time and learn how to keep our community safe and friendly for pets. The City of Carrollton will host its fifth annual Paws on the Square: Play, Shop, Learn, Adopt event on Saturday, June 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. The free event brings people, pets, animal welfare organizations, and pet-friendly companies together.
Browse the pet-focused vendor booths to find everything from pet accessories and treats to people food. Place your pet’s paws on a canvas with ink for a cool keepsake.
Visit Liston & Dan for a caricature drawing to capture a pet’s best pose. Visit the photo “paw-ty” area or Lituation Photobooth, and have a friend memorialize the occasion with a photograph of dog and owner on the Carrollton Square.
A mobile pet groomer will provide either a free nail or face trim on a first-come, first-served basis until the end of the event. This service is intended as a small touch up and does not include baths, full haircuts, or anything that would replace an actual grooming appointment.
On-site adoptions will be provided by Marleigh’s Friends and Cody’s Friends Rescue. Come out to meet your new best friend and add a canine kid to the family. Seven lucky dogs found their forever homes through Operation Kindness’ mobile adoption program at the last two events.
Low-cost $5 vaccinations will be provided by the Texas Coalition for Animal Protection (TCAP) from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Attendees must be in line by 1 p.m. to be seen. The event will also include free City registration with proof of rabies vaccination for Carrollton residents. Pet registrations are not only helpful in reuniting lost pets with their owners, but also required by City ordinances.
Stop by the Carrollton Animal Services (CAS) booth to find out about Animal Services’ many programs. CAS will be accepting both monetary and material donations.
“If you are looking to share another great memory with your pet, we encourage you to come out to Downtown Carrollton for a good time,” said Carrollton Animal Services Manager Carl Shooter. “There are few opportunities each year that focus on the special relationships between pets and their human companions like Paws on the Square does.”
DJ Cone is back and will be on-site for the entire event, so owners can sit and enjoy the tunes while their dogs sniff out a personalized doggy snack-bag at the doggy goody-bag bar.
Be sure to check out Yappy Hour on El Rincon’s patio area – a laid back scene where canine friends can enjoy an H2O bar and puppi-tizers (dog treats for the four-leggeds), not to mention adult beverage specials for the paw-rents such as $5 margaritas. Visit one of Downtown Carrollton’s many delicious restaurants.
All dogs must have ID tags, be on a leash at all times, have a current rabies vaccination (or are about to receive one), and be accompanied by someone 18 years or older. Attendees will receive a doggy trash bag dispenser in the shape of a fire hydrant while supplies last.
The event is sponsored by Dallas Medical Center and JeTT Pets professional pet services.
