Carrollton’s 6th Annual Run for Rover 5K Wins Big for Animals Services

Post Date:03/02/2022 4:57 PM

RunForRover-imageAvid runners and walkers braved a cold February morning for Carrollton’s furriest 5K on Saturday, February 26. The sixth annual Run for Rover 5K race saw 113 participants strut their stuff to benefit our four-legged friends in the City.

All proceeds go to the animals at the Carrollton Animal Services & Adoption Center with Saturday’s race bringing in $3,000 and several bags of dog food, treats, and kitty litter. Runners or walkers could include the option to bring along a leashed dog for the extra exercise or adopt a companion from the Adoption Center (2247 Sandy Lake Road) that is right next door to the race route at McInnish Sports Complex. Two dogs were adopted into fur-ever homes that morning.

Awards for the 5K were given to overall male and female winners Giovanni Martinez and Lindsay Cazarez, and 24 medals were awarded to the top male and female finishers in each age category.

“Run for Rover simultaneously raises money for a great cause and provides families and dogs in the community with an opportunity to have fun together being active,” Parks & Recreation Director Scott Whitaker said.

The City advocates responsible pet ownership and encourages those who can to provide homes to the animals. This event continually builds awareness and resources for the animals in Carrollton.

“Fundraisers like Run for Rover play an integral role in the City’s efforts to save the animals in Carrollton’s care and place them in happy and healthy homes,” Animal Services Manager Travis Caperton said. “Participation in the event creates opportunities for the animals they may not get otherwise to become family pets.”

Sponsors for the event included American Service Pets, JeTT Pets, Julie Strauss with Ebby Halliday Realtors, Camp Gladiator, and Penny Whistle Photography.

Couldn’t run in the race, but still want to contribute? Donations of pet food, kitty litter, cleaning supplies, and more will be accepted at the Adoption Center.
