Cigna_Bronze SealThe City of Carrollton has been selected as a recipient for the Bronze level Cigna Healthy Workforce Designation™ for demonstrating a strong commitment to improving the health and well-being of its employees through a workplace wellness program.

“The health of Carrollton City employees is a top priority,” Carrollton Workforce Services Director Samantha Dean said. “We are honored to be recognized with the Cigna Healthy Workforce Designation and understand the important role employee well-being plays in the City’s success and the relationship between healthy employees contributing to a more productive, satisfied workforce and positive business performance. We remain committed to fostering a sustainable, healthy work culture targeting whole-person health and emotional well-being, as well as physical wellbeing.”

The City of Carrollton’s workplace wellness program includes presence of leadership support, the availability of budget and resources, communication methods, and supportive worksite policies and procedures that reinforce the dimensions of an employee’s well-being. Carrollton programs and benefits have helped employees be healthier, more productive, and more engaged, Dean said. The City not only has a local plus and open access medical plan, a health reimbursement account, dental and vision options, and flexible spending accounts, but also offers free access to a health and wellness center with over-the-counter medicine, behavioral health services, and a separate confidential employee assistance program that provides 24/7 help with a variety of work-life issues.

Investing in an effective workplace well-being program drives value for employers. Senior executives surveyed as part of an Economist Impact study commissioned by Cigna reported greater productivity, stronger staff morale and motivation, and greater retention and loyalty as the most significant business outcomes of a healthy workforce. Additionally, a Gallup Report finds that on average, companies with high employee engagement are 23 percent more profitable.

“As a consultative growth partner, Cigna knows that a healthy workforce is critical to business growth,” Cigna Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Cindy Ryan said. “We are honored to recognize organizations like the City of Carrollton who share Cigna’s commitment to workplace wellness. Creating a healthy work culture is of critical importance, and many employers are seeing increased employee engagement, productivity, and retention as a result of whole-person health and wellness initiatives.”

The Cigna Healthy Workforce Designation, formerly known as the Cigna Well-Being Award, evaluates organizations based on the core components of their well-being program, including leadership and culture, program foundations, program execution, and whole-person health. Organizations recognized with this designation set the standard of excellence for whole-organization health. Cigna is proud to honor the City of Carrollton with the Bronze level designation for having made good progress toward a healthy work culture by establishing and growing their employee well-being and engagement program.
