1999 Time Capsule Reveal has been Rescheduled

The City of Carrollton has moved the time capsule ceremony scheduled for Saturday, January 11 to Saturday, January 25 at 2 p.m. due to impending inclement weather.

The ceremony will reveal the contents of the time capsule buried in December 1999 at the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum and celebrate the reopening of the Perry Museum after its recent renovations.

The City is seeking information from anyone who helped with the 1999 ceremony, contributed materials, or who knows of someone who was involved in the process and interested in sharing their insights. The City of Carrollton will hold a ceremony Saturday, January 11 at 10 a.m. to reveal the contents of the time capsule buried in December 1999 at the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum, and to celebrate the reopening of the Perry Museum after its recent renovations.

The City is seeking information from anyone who helped with the 1999 ceremony, contributed materials, or who knows of someone who was involved in the process and interested in sharing their insights. The contents of the capsule will be on display after the ceremony.

Carrollton will also be celebrating the recent renovations of the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum and the reopening to the public, since its closure in August. This is the first time the site has been rehabilitated with such extensive upgrades since the 1970s. Event attendees will be able to tour the grounds and the facility directly following the time capsule ceremony.

The Perry Homestead and 10 acres of land was donated to the City in 1975 by A.W. Perry’s granddaughter, Pearl, on the condition that it be used as a Carrollton museum and park. The site was then refurbished for the Bicentennial in 1976, recognized with a historical marker designation by the Texas State Historical Commission in 1977, and renovated in time for Carrollton’s Centennial Celebration in 2013.
