Register for Carrollton's Summer Reading Challenge 2025

Post Date:04/28/2025 3:07 PM

2025-SRC_IGThe Carrollton Public Library presents the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge (SRC) from Sunday, June 1 through Friday, August 1 offering age-specific reading programs for everyone. Register starting Thursday, May 1 at cityofcarrollton.com/summerreading or carrollton.beanstack.org.

Residents of all ages can take the challenge by reading and logging minutes to earn prizes. A Library card is not required to participate, though it is encouraged and free for Carrollton residents to open up a whole new world of literary possibilities, including free access to digital media services such as CloudLibrary and hoopla. Reading newspapers, magazines, eBooks, and listening to audiobooks count toward the challenge, too.

Register for the Kids program (12 and under) or the Teen & Adult program (13+). Parents of children below the age of five are encouraged to participate in the year-round 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program, also found at carrollton.beanstack.org.

"The Carrollton Public Library is excited to continue offering our Summer Reading Challenge, which sees more minutes logged every year," Jonathan Scheu, Carrollton Public Library Director said. "This program encourages readers of all ages to grow their skills, explore new ideas, and enjoy the rewards of a summer filled with learning and achievement.”

Earn SRC prizes by logging minutes of reading. Track minutes online or download the free Beanstack Tracker app. For every 300 minutes read, participants will earn a prize, such as a book or a drawing ticket. Prizes are earned at 300, 600, 900, 1,200, 2,400, and 4,800 minutes logged. This year's program also includes additional activities and challenges. Mark completed activities online or in the app and earn additional drawing ticket entries. Paper logs will be available at both Library locations.

Drawing prizes include gift cards from Amazon, Cinemark, the LEGO® Store, and more. For a full list of prizes, visit cityofcarrollton.com/library. An Amazon Fire Tablet grand prize will be awarded from a randomized drawing of participants in each group (one Kids winner and one Teen & Adult winner) who have completed 1,200 minutes or more of reading. Reading for only 30 minutes a day throughout the summer will put participants well on their way toward an entry to win an Amazon Fire Tablet.

SRC participants can join Carrollton Public Library staff to celebrate their reading success at the End of Summer Party at the Rosemeade Rainforest Aquatic Complex on Friday, August 1 with swimming and fun activities. Participants will earn their invite badge and bookmark after logging any number of minutes toward the challenge.

For current Library service hours, visit cityofcarrollton.com/library. The Library’s digital branch is available 24/7, offering access to a variety of eBooks, eAudiobooks, and more. Holds and other inquiries can be made by phone during Library service hours or anytime online.

SRC is sponsored by the Friends of the Carrollton Public Library. To register, visit carrollton.beanstack.org or download the free app and create an account.
