Post Date:06/08/2025 11:36 PM

UPDATE 11:30 P.M.

FLASH FLOOD WARNING: A flash flood warning has been issued for Dallas County in Carrollton until 3 a.m. Be aware of surroundings, avoid flood-prone areas, and do not drive on flooded roads. If drivers must be out, they should slow down to half of their normal speed. This buys time to see things and to react. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Sign up for emergency notifications at carrolltonalert.com

UPDATE 10:03 P.M.

Carrollton has activated sirens for the Denton county section of Carrollton only due to the potential for 80 mph winds and nickel-sized hail. Take shelter indoors and stay away from windows as there could be flying debris. Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection. Seek further information from radio, television, or sources such as the City's social media feeds.

The US National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for Carrollton as of 6:15 p.m.

Important Reminders for Tonight’s Severe Weather Event

A significant wind event is expected to impact Carrollton tonight, June 8, between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. Damaging winds over 80 mph are the primary threat, with large hail and isolated spin-up tornadoes also possible. Review the following reminders to stay safe and help keep our community secure:

Trash and Recycling Bins:

Residents with Monday solid waste collection are asked to secure trash and recycling carts before tonight’s storm. To reduce debris hazards, customers should wait until after the storm passes (expected around 2 a.m.) before setting out bins OR bulk items. Monday solid waste collection is currently expected to proceed as scheduled; the City will update residents if there are any changes.

Reminder: If a collection bin has gone missing, check the surrounding area and ask neighbors before submitting a missing cart request.

Outdoor Items:

Secure all outdoor items, including patio furniture, decorations, and sports equipment, to prevent them from becoming wind-borne hazards.

Emergency Notifications:

Sign up for Carrollton’s emergency alerts at carrolltonalert.com to stay informed of any urgent weather-related updates. If possible, keep a weather radio nearby to receive real-time warnings. Updates are also provided on the City of Carrollton's social media channels.

Carrollton’s 26 Outdoor Warning Sirens (OWS) are designed to alert people who are outdoors of immediate threats, including severe weather, hazardous materials incidents, or other dangers. They are not intended to be heard indoors.
