Carrollton Reports Positive Mosquito Trap

Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) has confirmed one mosquito sample testing positive for West Nile Virus (WNV) in Carrollton. The sample was collected from mosquito management area 4B. Area 4B is located between Trinity Mills Road, North Josey Lane, Frankford Road, and Carrollton’s eastern City limits. This area can be viewed in detail at cityofcarrollton.com/westnile. The City of Carrollton conducts mosquito trapping in seven areas of the city each week during the mosquito season, May-October, and has collected 119 samples so far this year.

Carrollton Animal Services will conduct ground-based spraying in the neighborhoods outlined above, weather permitting, Tuesday, September 16 and Wednesday, September 17, beginning around 9 p.m. and continuing until completed. Spraying will not be conducted in the event of wind speeds in excess of 15 mph or inclement weather.

Cory Heiple, Environmental Services Director, encourages citizens to practice the ‘4Ds’ to reduce the risk of WNV:

  • DEET All Day, Every Day: Whenever you are outside, use insect repellants that contain DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
  • DRESS: Wear long, loose, and light-colored clothing outside.
  • DRAIN: Remove all areas of standing water in and around your home.
  • DUSK & DAWN: Limit outdoor activities during dusk and dawn hours when mosquitoes are most active.

The samples were collected from mosquito management areas 4A and 6A. Area 4A is located between Frankford Road, Josey Lane, Rosemeade Parkway, and Carrollton’s eastern City limits. Area 6A is located between Josey Lane, Trinity Mills Road, Marsh Lane, and Keller Springs Road. These areas can be viewed in detail at cityofcarrollton.com/westnile. The City of Carrollton conducts mosquito trapping in seven areas of the city each week during the mosquito season, May-October, and has collected 98 samples so far this year.    

Carrollton Animal Services will conduct ground-based spraying in the neighborhoods outlined above, weather permitting, Tuesday, August 26 and Wednesday, August 27, beginning around 9 p.m. and continuing until completed. Spraying will not be conducted in the event of wind speeds in excess of 15 mph or inclement weather.

The sample were collected from the mosquito management areas 7A. Area 7A is located between Whitlock Lane, Broadway Street, Josey Lane and Belt Line Road. This area can be viewed in detail at cityofcarrollton.com/westnile. The City of Carrollton conducts mosquito trapping in seven areas of the City each week during the mosquito season, May-October, and has collected 84 samples so far this year.

Carrollton Animal Services will conduct ground-based spraying in the neighborhoods outlined above, weather permitting, Tuesday, August 12 and Wednesday, August 13, beginning around 9 p.m. and continuing until completed. Spraying will not be conducted in the event of wind speeds in excess of 15 mph or inclement weather.

The City of Carrollton conducts mosquito trapping in seven areas of the city each week during the mosquito season, May-October, and has collected 77 samples so far this year.    

Carrollton Animal Services will conduct ground-based spraying in the neighborhoods outlined above, weather permitting, Tuesday, August 5 and Wednesday, August 6, beginning around 9 p.m. and continuing until completed. Spraying will not be conducted in the event of wind speeds in excess of 15 mph or inclement weather.

Area 2A is located between Hebron Parkway, Old Denton Road, and Carrollton’s northern City limits. This area can be viewed in detail at cityofcarrollton.com/westnile. The City of Carrollton conducts mosquito trapping in seven areas of the city each week during the mosquito season, May-October, and has collected 70 samples so far this year.     

Carrollton Animal Services will conduct ground-based spraying in the neighborhoods outlined above, weather permitting, Tuesday, July 29 and Wednesday, July 30, beginning around 9 p.m. and continuing until completed. Spraying will not be conducted in the event of wind speeds in excess of 15 mph or inclement weather.

Area 7A is located between Whitlock Lane, Broadway Street, Josey Lane, and Belt Line Road. These areas can be viewed in detail at cityofcarrollton.com/westnile. The City of Carrollton conducts mosquito trapping in seven areas of the city each week during the mosquito season, May-October, and has collected 56 samples so far this year.     

Carrollton Animal Services will conduct ground-based spraying in the neighborhoods outlined above, weather permitting, Tuesday, July 15 and Wednesday, July 16, beginning around 9 p.m. and continuing until completed. Spraying will not be conducted in the event of wind speeds in excess of 15 mph or inclement weather.
