Trash & Recycling Collection Schedule Updates

Post Date:01/28/2026 6:28 PM

 Collection schedule

Facilities

City facilities will be open during regular hours on Thursday, January 29, except for Indian Creek Golf Club, which will be closed until more snow and ice melt away.

Trash/Recycling

Trash collection will resume tomorrow starting with Wednesday routes. Residents whose regular collection day is Wednesday should place bins out for collection starting on Thursday and leave them out until collected. Remaining routes will be delayed one day as crews continue to collect through Saturday, with the intention of servicing Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday routes for trash beginning Thursday and finishing Saturday.

Bulk, brush/yard waste, and recycling pick-up will all be suspended this week to catch up on trash collection. Monday and Tuesday routes will be recovered next Monday, February 2 and Tuesday, February 3. Republic Services will return to the normal collection schedule beginning next week.

Republic Services will next pick up recycling for residents who are on the Blue Week schedule (according to Carrollton’s 2026 Residential Recycling Schedule) the week of Monday, February 9 and complete trash, recycling, and bulk pick-up as scheduled.

Since Monday and Tuesday routes will have missed a week’s collection due to the weather conditions and landfill closure, under these unique circumstances, residents whose regular collection day is Monday or Tuesday may place extra bags of trash at the curb where bulk is collected. Residents should wait to place both roll-out bins and any extra bags no earlier than 6 p.m. of the evening before and no later than 6:30 a.m. on their normal collection day next week.

This week, while recycling collection is suspended, residents have the option to self-service and drop off recyclables at the Republic Services’ recycling center (4200 14th St., Plano, TX).  The City will also cover the $18 fee on Saturday, January 31 for any residents who wish to drop off trash at Camelot Landfill (580 Huffines Blvd.) by following the proper guidelines:

  • Cannot exceed 6 cubic yards per month
  • Bring a state-issued ID and a water bill for proof of residency in Carrollton
  • Tie down materials with a tarp, ropes, or other covering

Remaining routes will be delayed one day as crews continue to collect through Saturday, with the intention of servicing Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday routes for trash beginning Thursday and finishing Saturday.

Republic Services, the City’s solid waste disposal and recycling partner, has suspended all trash and recycling services for tomorrow, January 27 due to hazardous road and alleyway conditions.

Trash collection is expected to resume on Wednesday, January 28, starting with Monday and Tuesday routes. Residents whose regular collection day is Monday or Tuesday should place bins out for collection starting on Wednesday and leave them out until collected. Remaining routes will be delayed one day as crews continue to collect through Saturday, with the intention of finishing the entire week's collection this weekend.

Customers with brush may place it out at the curb on this week's altered collection day, while furniture and other large household items should be held until next week’s collection day.

Trash collection will be prioritized to catch up on routes, so recycling will not be picked up this week and will be self-service only. Residents can drop off recyclables at the Republic Services’ recycling center (4200 14th St., Plano, TX).  The City will also cover the $18 fee Saturday, January 31 for any residents who wish to drop off trash at Camelot Landfill (580 Huffines Blvd.) by following the proper guidelines:

  • Cannot exceed 6 cubic yards per month
  • Bring a state-issued ID and water bill for proof of residency in Carrollton

This includes Recreation Centers, Libraries, the Senior Center, City Hall, Municipal Court, Animal Services & Adoption Center, Oak Creek Tennis Center, and Indian Creek Golf Club. Virtual services are strongly encouraged and remain available 24/7. Weather conditions will continue to be monitored to determine if additional delayed openings or closures will be necessary.

Remember the Four Ps

Temperatures will remain well below freezing and an Extreme Cold Warning has been issued beginning at 6 p.m. tonight, January 25, and continuing through 9 a.m. Tuesday, January 27. Keep the four Ps protected:

  • PEOPLE: Check on any elderly relatives or neighbors who may need extra blankets or a warm place to stay. Limit time spent in the cold, and if enjoying the winter wonderland, dress in warm, lightweight layers.
  • PETS: Take them outside only for short periods of time or quick walks, as the cold ground can cause frostbite on their paws, and wind chill can be damaging to their health. For more winter pet safety tips, read about how to keep pets warm in cold winter weather.
  • PIPES: Prevent pipes from bursting by keeping a steady drip or light stream — especially on exterior walls. Open under-sink cabinet doors to allow heat to reach pipes. For more information, read tips on avoiding frozen pipes during winter weather.
  • PLANTS: Keep them covered or inside. Find out more information about cold-weather plant preparation.

Heating Tips

Here are a few heating tips for home safety:

  • Keep anything flammable at least three feet away from heating equipment, such as the furnace, fireplace, wood stove, or portable space heater.
  • Have a three-foot “kid-free zone” around open fires and space heaters.
  • Never use the oven to heat the home.
  • If you smell gas, don’t light matches and avoid creating any sparks.
  • Never use a generator indoors or in the garage.

The weather’s transition from freezing rain to heavy sleet accumulation, coupled with sub-freezing temperatures, will create hazardous road conditions. Avoid travel unless necessary. The City of Carrollton has not received reports of widespread power outages, but if they occur, residents should contact their electricity provider, either Oncor (888-313-4747) or CoServ (855-938-3496).

Due to the ongoing winter weather storm and potential for more ice overnight, all City of Carrollton public-facing facilities will be closed on Sunday, January 25. This includes Rosemeade Recreation Center, Libraries, Oak Creek Tennis Center, and Indian Creek Golf Club. City Hall and Municipal Court are normally closed on weekends, and Animal Services & Adoption Center, Crosby Recreation Center, and the Senior Center are normally closed on Sundays.

Weather conditions will continue to be monitored to determine if Monday closures are warranted, and an announcement will be made tomorrow, January 25. Virtual services are strongly encouraged and remain available 24/7. For burst pipes, residents can call 972-466-3000.

Public Safety response, including 911, remains unaffected. Carrollton Police Department, Carrollton Fire Rescue, and Carrollton Public Works are fully operational. For non-emergencies, call 972-466-3333 or dial *247 any time.

Facility Closures

Due to the Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service, all public-facing City of Carrollton facilities will be closed on Saturday, January 24. This includes recreation centers, Libraries, the Senior Center, Animal Services & Adoption Center, Oak Creek Tennis Center, and Indian Creek Golf Club. City Hall and Municipal Court are normally closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Weather conditions will continue to be monitored to determine if Sunday closures are warranted and an announcement will be made tomorrow, January 24. Virtual services are strongly encouraged and remain available 24/7.

Public Safety response, including 911, remains unaffected. Carrollton Police Department, Carrollton Fire Rescue, and Carrollton Public Works are fully operational. For non-emergencies, call 972-466-3333 or dial *247 any time.

Road Conditions

City crews will continue winter weather operations, including treating roads, bridges, and overpasses. As a reminder, this does not stop ice from accumulating.

Driving conditions will be hazardous, and residents are encouraged to stay off the roads, if possible. If driving is required, slow down, leave plenty of space between vehicles, and avoid braking or accelerating quickly in icy conditions.

Power Outages

At this time, ERCOT expects normal grid conditions. However, in the event of a local power outage, power is controlled by the resident's energy provider, Oncor or CoServ, not the City of Carrollton. In the event of a power outage, residents should contact their service provider:

Oncor

Report power outages by calling 888-313-4747, texting O-U-T to 66267, downloading the MyOncor app, or visiting https://stormcenter.oncor.com/.

Facility Updates

The City of Carrollton is monitoring weather conditions to determine if City facility closures are necessary and an announcement will be made tomorrow, January 23.

Park restrooms and water fountains have been winterized and temporarily closed to prevent freezing pipes. They will reopen once temperatures are consistently above freezing.

CoServ

Report power outages by texting OUT to 855-938-3496 or visit CoServ.com/OutageMap for estimated restoration times and other updates.

For an emergency, call 911.  For non-emergency incidents, call 972-466-3333 or *247 on mobile.

Winter Driver Safety

The City of Carrollton is preparing for potential winter weather by actively spreading pre-treatment on roads, bridges, and overpasses.

The pre-treatment application is intended to keep ice from forming. If cold conditions and precipitation persist over a longer duration and ice begins to form, crews will respond by implementing sanding operation plan for the higher traffic areas, as well as bridges and overpasses.

Freeze Precautions

Be prepared for any potential winter freezes by remembering to protect the four Ps:

  • PEOPLE: Keep your family warm and check on any elderly relatives or neighbors who may need extra blankets, help winterizing their homes, or a warm place to stay.
  • PETS: Bring pets inside at night to keep them healthy and safe. Take them outside only for short periods of time or quick walks, as the cold ground can cause frostbite on their paws, and wind chill can be damaging to their health. For more winter pet safety tips, read about how to keep pets warm in cold winter weather.
  • PIPES: Cover exposed pipes to prevent freezing and breaks. For more information, read tips on avoiding frozen pipes during winter weather.
  • PLANTS: Either cover plants to keep them warm at night or bring them inside to flourish. Find out more information about cold-weather plant preparation.

 Remember the 4 Ps

Turn Off Your Sprinkler System

When temperatures are near freezing, businesses and residents need to pay close attention to their irrigation systems. On very cold days, the City of Carrollton receives numerous requests to sand roadways and sidewalks that are frozen and slippery due to irrigation overspray. This creates a safety hazard for pedestrians and drivers, and you can be held accountable if your system caused the problem. The City’s Water Quality Team issues warnings and/or notices of violation, as well as citations to property owners who allow their irrigation systems to run during a freeze event. This is a critical step in protecting our community members and minimizing City expenditures for ice control. To report a running sprinkler system during temperatures 32 degrees or below, call 972-466-3425.

One way to be sure that your irrigation system is not contributing to the icy conditions is to install a rain and freeze sensor. Not only will these sensors save you money by automatically turning off your system during rain and freeze events, they will also help eliminate potentially hazardous situations such as icy sidewalks and roadways. Residents and businesses of Carrollton can take advantage of the City’s free rain and freeze sensor program. Another simple alternative is to turn your irrigation system off until temperatures rise again. For more information, visit cityofcarrollton.com/sprinklersensor
