Thanks to suggestions received in the Carrollton Public Library’s 2024 Citizen Feedback Survey, outdoor self-service hold lockers are now available at each Library location for cardholders to have 24-hour access to item holds, including after hours and on holidays.
Patrons can pick up materials such as books, DVDs, CD audiobooks, Playaway audiobooks, multimedia language learning materials, and Wonderbooks. To ensure smooth operation and equal access, all requests will be held for seven days. If items are not picked up within seven days of the system notification, holds will be cancelled.
“The Carrollton Public Library is excited about this expansion of our offerings,” Rachel Young, Carrollton Public Library Director, said. “Patrons have been asking for a way to obtain physical materials after-hours, and we listened. The goal with this added convenience is to increase accessibility to the Library collection as we continue leveraging new technology to enhance our existing services.”
A Library card, which is free for Carrollton residents, is required to use the new holds lockers. When browsing the online catalog and selecting items, patrons can now choose a locker as the pickup location. Once users either receive an email notification or see the pickup is ready in their account, the items are ready to be collected. Patrons simply scan their physical or digital Library card at the lockers and follow the instructions on the screen to check out their items. To browse materials available for pickup, visit the Library Catalog Homepage.

Patrons can also continue to access the Library’s collection 24/7 through free digital resources. These include CloudLibrary, CPL’s primary eBook and eAudiobook service, which offers web browser viewing and a mobile app for Apple and Android devices, as well as Amazon Fire tablets. For streaming media, the Library has partnered with hoopla, which provides movies, TV shows, magazines, music, eAudiobooks, eBooks, and comics on a wide range of devices. Other resources include PressReader for digital newspapers and magazines, and Mango for Libraries, which engages learners across 70+ language offerings. For a complete list, view Books & More.
