The City of Carrollton invites the public to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 8 to celebrate the completion of voter-approved renovations to Woodlake Lake.

Guests will hear remarks from Mayor Steve Babick and Director of Parks & Recreation Jonathan Scheu on the project’s new features including the new lakeside pavilion which adds both shade and style as well as the ADA-accessible launch area for kayakers of all abilities.

"The vision for Woodlake Lake has always been about enhancing the visitor experience without compromising the site's natural beauty," Engineering Director Jonathan Wheat said. "Throughout the planning and construction process, the City's goal was to create a destination where residents can relax, enjoy the outdoors, and experience the lake in new ways while protecting the qualities that make this location unique."

In addition to the pavilion structure and the adaptive watercraft launch, upgrades include terraced seating overlooking the lake, expanded trail connections, improved parking, native landscaping, and gathering spaces designed to encourage outdoor recreation and community engagement.

"Woodlake Lake has long been a treasured destination for residents seeking a peaceful place to enjoy nature," Babick said. "These enhancements build on that legacy by creating an inviting destination along Carrollton's scenic Blue Trail where families, friends, neighbors, and visitors can walk, run, fish, kayak, or simply relax by the water."

Carrollton voters approved a $22.4 million Parks & Recreation bond package in 2018, with approximately $2.5 million earmarked for Woodlake Lake enhancements. Work began in August 2024 and wrapped up in late July 2026.

The ceremony will take place at Woodlake Lake on E. Peters Colony Road between Josey Lane and Paxton Drive. Community members are invited to attend, tour the site, and learn more about the project and future improvements planned for the area. There will be live music and complimentary coffee and pastries from a mobile café while supplies last.
