Building Inspection Earns High Ratings

ISO Recognizes an Increase in Effectiveness

Post Date:06/12/2009
Carrollton's Building Inspection Department recently received a favorable evaluation from the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO)

The resulting Building Code Effectiveness Grading (BCEG) Classification gave Carrollton a “2” for residential property and a “2” for commercial and industrial properties; with “1” as the highest attainable score. Carrollton is one of a very few select cities in the state that have been able to achieve a “2” rating.

Insurers may use this grading classification in determining insurance rates for structures permitted and built in the year 2009 and following. This is another increase in effectiveness from the year 2000, when the City improved to a “3” from a previous score of “6”.

This improved rating is due in great part to the caliber of staff in Building Inspection and their continued effort to develop improved safety standards for the protection of life, health and property. Over a period of two months, staff coordinated and collected the data required to be submitted to ISO.

This rating reflects the positive impact that is being made on development, with particular attention paid to the department’s processes such as the One-Stop-Shop program, educational efforts for homebuilders, citizens and contractors, and providing partnerships with those seeking to develop in Carrollton. Being responsive and available to customers in all circumstances assists in the effective implementation and enforcement of codes and enhances these partnerships with the development community.
