All animals adopted from the Carrollton Animal Services and Adoption Center must:
  • Receive a rabies vaccination
  • Be spayed or neutered

If your new pet has not received these services:

  • You will sign an agreement complete both within 30 days of adoption
  • If the pet is under 4 months old, a deadline will be set based on when the pet reaches 4 months of age, plus 30 days

Important:

  • All veterinary costs are the responsibility of the adopter
  • Failure to comply may result in citations, with fines up to $2,000 per violation

Health Disclaimer:

The Adoption Center does not guarantee the health of any adopted animal. All medical care and associated costs are the sole responsibility of the adopter.

Adoption Process

1. Choose Your Pet

Browse available animals and select the one you'd like to adopt.

2. Complete Required Forms

Staff will guide you through all necessary paperwork

3. Sign Agreements (If Applicable)

If the animal is not yet vaccinated or altered, you'll sign an agreement to complete those services by the required deadline.

4. Take Your Pet Home

In most cases, you'll take your new pet home the same day.

Adoption Lottery (When Applicable)

If an animal is not yet available for adoption:

  • Call 972-466-3420 to enter the lottery
  • On the day the animal becomes available:
    • A ticket will be randomly drawn
    • The selected individual will be contacted

Response Requirements:

  • If you answer: you must schedule a same-day appointment
  • If a voicemail is left: you have 2 hours to return the call
  • If no response: staff will move to the next ticket

Stray Hold & First-Come Policy

  • Most stray animals are held for 5 days to allow owners time to reclaim them
  • After the hold period, animals are available for adoption on a first-come, first-served basis

If multiple adopters are present at the same time:

  • Numbered tickets will be distributed
  • A random drawing will determine who gets the first opportunity to adopt

Note: Animals cannot be reserved under any circumstances.

Foster First Program

The Foster First Program allows you to take an eligible pet home for a 7-day trial period before finalizing adoption.

This program:

  • Helps ensure a good fit for your home and lifestyle
  • Removes pressure from making an immediate permanent decision
  • Encourages successful, long-term placements
