Congrats to Our 2018 Pet Photo Contest Winners!

The City of Carrollton thanks all animal lovers who submitted photos of their pets for entry into the 2018 wall calendar. The contest is now closed, but proceeds of both the contest and printed calendar will benefit animals in the Carrollton Animal Services & Adoption Center.
Be on the lookout for the launch sale of the 2018 Carrollton Pet Photo Calendar at the Pooch Pool Party on Saturday, September 9 at Rosemeade Rainforest Aquatic Complex (1334 E. Rosemeade Parkway).
Photo submissions from residents raised $695 this year and as always, all proceeds go directly to the Carrollton Adoption Center for resources such as food, medicine, cleaning supplies, and treatment of sick or injured animals.
“This contest has become one of the most important things we work on; special services and surgeries are paid for in part by the funding raised during this event,” Animal Services Manager Carl Shooter said. “I want to thank our community for their participation as this support goes a long way in helping the animals in our care.”
The contest ran from March to August and saw nearly 150 photo submissions from local pet lovers. Leah Shaw and her smiley-faced pup Prince, a four-year-old mix of a mutt, won the Grand Prize calendar cover.
“We believe he is part Jack Russell terrier, pit bull Terrier, and beagle, though some have guessed Chihuahua or even Labrador,” Shaw said. “It’s anybody’s guess. Prince is our family dog, but my daughter Allison took the picture.”
The 12 winners whose pets will grace the pages of each month were notified via email. All winners will receive a free calendar and a few treats for their winnings.
Thanks to the Animal Services Advisory Committee for sponsoring the 2018 Carrollton Pet Photo Calendar. Calendars are $10 (including tax) and will be for sale at City facilities beginning Monday, September 11. Cash or check only at City Hall, Marketing Services.
Carrollton Animal Services reminds residents to take special care of their pets during the hot summer months. Avoid leaving animals in hot cars or outside for long periods of the day. Also avoid going on walks while pavement and sidewalks are especially hot as the surface may cause burns or injuries to a pet’s paws. As always, remember to pick up after your pets!
