The Neighborhood Partnership Office is excited to continue the Volunteer Recognition Program! Carrollton is grateful for the quality and quantity of volunteers the city have, and know that many of the city's important programs and services would not be possible without them.

This year staff will be accepting nominations for five awards: the Neighborhood Leadership Award, The Outstanding Community Organization Award, the Volunteer of the Year Award, Youth Volunteer of the Year Award, and The Jimmy Porter Award.

Anyone can nominate a special neighborhood volunteer, team, non-profit or organization in the community, and if you know more than one, we invite you to submit multiple nominations.

Nominees must have served the community of the City of Carrollton.

We are accepting nomination applications now! They are due Friday, January 3, 2020 by 11:30 AM. We will not accept any more nominations after this time.


Awards

Neighborhood Leadership Award

The Neighborhood leadership award is designed to recognize adults in the Carrollton community who have taken a proactive role in addressing the needs of Carrollton residents. Examples of volunteer efforts are beautification projects, outstanding board leadership or accountability, youth projects, church community outreach projects, crime watch, inter-cultural projects, and social causes. Nominees can serve neighborhood associations, churches, non-profits, PTAs, or any other self-organizing group that serves the City of Carrollton. Their efforts must have contributed outstanding service tot heir community.  

Selection

1. nominees should be at least 18 years of age.  

2. Award selections are based on the nominee’s volunteer efforts and commitment of time, accomplishments, community impact and enhancement of the lives of others, as described on the nomination form.

3. Nominee must have been active in the 2019 calendar year.

4. The Commission selects recipients of the Awards, based on the selection criteria.

5. Recipients of the Awards are selected based on merit – without regard to race, religion, gender, national origin, or physical/mental disability.

Outstanding  Community Organization Award 

The Outstanding Community Organization Award is designed to recognize active organizations giving back to the Carrollton community. Nominees can be an organization, team, or non-profit. Types of organizations eligible for nomination include neighborhood associations, non-profits, PTAs, religious houses of worship, youth groups, or any other self-organized group.   

Selection

1. Organizations must be composed of three or more members and have pre-defined goals and utilize strategy to reach a successful completion.  

2. Award selections are based on the nominee’s volunteer efforts and commitment of time, accomplishments, community impact and enhancement of the lives of others, as described on the nomination form.

3. The service must be in Carrollton or benefit the residents of Carrollton.

4. The Commission selects recipients of the Awards, based on the selection criteria.

5. Recipients of the Awards are selected based on merit – without regard to race, religion, gender, national origin, or physical/mental disability.

Carrollton Parks & Rec Jimmy Porter Award

Individuals nominated for the Jimmy Porter Award must be at least 18 years old and have volunteered in one of the recognized Carrollton youth sport leagues (Aqua Racers Swim Team, Carrollton-Farmers Branch Baseball Association, Carrollton-Farmers Branch Girls Softball League, Carrollton-Farmers Branch Soccer Association, Carrollton Youth Basketball, Carrollton Youth Football, Carrollton Youth Track & Field, and Carrollton Youth Volleyball) within the past year with no compensation for time and activities for which they are being considered.

Time volunteered on behalf of teams, leagues, or activities affiliated with a Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District school does not qualify for the Jimmy Porter Award, but it does for other award options.

Nominees and individuals making nominations are not required to be Carrollton residents; however, nominees must not be a current Parks & Recreation Board Member.

Volunteer of the Year Award

The Carrollton Volunteer of the Year Award is for distinguished service to a City of Carrollton department, program, or social service organization that services the City of Carrollton community. Nominees must volunteered in the 2019 calendar year. Examples are Boards and Commissions, Citizen Patrol, Animal Care, Library, religious houses of worship, or social service organizations who benefit the City of Carrollton.  

Selection

1. Nominees must be 18 years of age and older 

2. Nominee must be engaged in volunteer activities with a City of Carrollton Department or Social Service Organization serving the Carrollton Community in 2019. 

3. Award selections are based on the nominee's volunteer efforts and commitment of time, accomplishments, community impact, and enhancement of the lives of others, as described on the nomination form. 

4. Volunteers must have served for a minimum of one year. 

5. The Commission selects recipients of the awards based on the selection criteria. 

6. Recipients of the awards are selected based on merit - without regard to race, religion, gender, national origin, or physical/mental disability. 

Awards will be announced at the 13th Annual Citizen’s Evening at the Carrollton Senior Center, Texas Ballroom.

Youth Volunteer of the Year Award

The Carrollton Youth Volunteer of the Year Award is for distinguished service to a City of Carrollton department, program, school program, or social service organization that serve the City of Carrollton community. Nominees must have served within the 2019 calendar year. Examples are Boards and Commissions, Citizen Patrol, Animal Care, Library, religious houses of worship, or social service organizations who benefit the City of Carrollton.   

Selection

1. Nominees must be between the ages of 10 to 17 years of age. 

2. Nominee must be engaged in volunteer activities with the City of Carrollton Department, School Program, Boy/Girl Scouts, or Social Service Organization serving the Carrollton community. 

3. Award selections are based on the nominee's volunteer efforts and commitment of time, accomplishments, community impact, and enhancement of the lives of others, as described on the nomination form.

4. Volunteers must have served for a minimum of one year. 

5. The Commission selects recipients of the awards based on the selection criteria. 

6. Recipients of the awards are selected based on merit - without regard to race, religion, gender, national origin, or physical/mental disability.
