Food Safety Specialists (Sanitarians) inspect and score local food businesses to check compliance with City and state food codes. Inspections are based on the type of food served, risk level, and any past violations.
Food Safety Specialists also work with Dallas and Denton Counties, the Texas Department of State Health Services, and other health agencies to investigate foodborne illness reports.
The Food and Consumer Safety Program operates in conjunction with Building Inspection to review the plans of all new food service establishments as well as the remodeling of any current establishment to ensure equipment and facilities meet the criteria for safe handling of food to the community.
