Certification Overview

The City of Carrollton achieved LEED for Cities and Communities Gold certification by earning 68 points out of the possible 110 points available across nine credit categories. Significant strategies that contributed to the certification include the City’s focused approach to categories like transportation and land use, reflecting a commitment to compact, mixed-use, transit-oriented development, safe, multimodal accessibility, and clean transportation. The City demonstrated high achievement across quality of life indicators such as public health, social services and infrastructure. The City’s commitment to strengthening its community is evident through these efforts, strategically lean internal operation, substantial regional collaboration, and consistent action toward improving public safety and inclusion resources for residents.

Sustainability Priorities

  • Continue hazard assessment and resilience planning to safeguard infrastructure and vulnerable populations from extreme heat, flooding, and other high-risk climate hazards.
  • Advance Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) districts to improve walkability, reduce vehicle miles traveled, enhance access to public transit, and promote mixed-use, compact land development.
  • Expand smart water infrastructure, conservation initiatives, and public education to achieve a water use target of 150 gallons per capita per day.
  • Complete an updated Scope 1 and 2 Greenhouse Gas Inventory to reassess community emissions, evaluate climate risks, and identify enhanced energy reduction strategies.
