Is it legal to use a barbecue pit at an apartment complex?
The City of Carrollton has adopted ordinance No. 3181 banning the use of barbecue pits on apartment balconies that reads as follows:
Open flame cooking devices, charcoal grills, outdoor fireplaces and other similar devices used for cooking, heating or any other purpose, shall not be located or used on any combustible balcony, deck, or within 10 feet of any combustible construction.

2. Where buildings, balconies, and decks are protected by an approved automatic sprinkler system.
In an apartment, who is responsible for keeping smoke alarms in good working order?
Smoke alarms are so effective that the City of Carrollton requires the owners/managers of apartment communities to provide working smoke alarms when tenants move in. However, it is up to the tenant to ensure the smoke alarms continue to work. Test smoke alarms once a month and replace the battery at least once a year. Make sure smoke alarms are clean at all times.
