This month we will review several skills at the station level. Remember, everyone needs 16 hours of station level training each month.

Bunking Out

Officers and tailboard personnel need to practice:

1. Getting bunked out for fire calls from station duty attire, gaining access to riding position, getting seat belted, and then coming off the apparatus with all proper gear.

2. Going on air as if you are at the door of a structure involved in fire. Start with all gear on except for mask. Then, don mask and click on air as if you are going into hazard zone.

Drivers and ambulance stallions need to practice:

1. Coming off the engine, truck, or ambulance in station duty gear and getting fully bunked out as if going into fire.

Entanglement

Watch the videos below, then get creative around the station or district and find an obstacle to crawl under (chair, table, make-shift box, park playground equipment). Apply some wire, string, or rope to the obstacle and work on freeing yourself with and without the use of cutters.

Rescue Bag Throwing

Watch the vides below. Then, get creative again. Go to the yard or parking lot of the station or go to a pool, pond or river in district. Practice. Practice. Practice. If you are practicing on land, one crew member can walk or jog to practice throw bagging to a moving target. This skill may save a life before the swift water team gets on scene.

MCI Triage Kits

The last station level review in May concerns the mass casualty triage kit on all apparatus. Please find and review this piece of equipment. You may need it in coming months.

Instructor Led Training

Also this month, the E112 captains and crews will lead some Save Your Own training. This training will consist of bail outs and ladder rescue. The instructors will call crews and training groups as needed.
