What is a Family Place Library?

Family Place Libraries logo

The Carrollton Public Library at Josey Ranch Lake is part of the nationwide network of Family Place Libraries™—a tried, tested and valuable program targeting families with young children, particularly those under 3 years.

Based on research about the connections in the brain that need to be made at this very early age, we emphasize the importance of learning through purposeful play.

The Family Place initiative builds on the knowledge that good health, early learning, parental involvement and supportive communities play a critical role in young children’s growth and development.

We understand the role of parents and caregivers as the first and most important teachers, and through our Family Place Playgroup we aim to connect families to other local community agencies that may provide specialized services for them.

Family Place Playgroup

The Family Place Playgroup takes place each Fall and Spring for children ages 1–3 and their caregivers with siblings ages 0–5 welcome. It is a 5-week commitment to attend a series of sessions on five consecutive Monday mornings.

To accommodate our Library families, we ask that participants refrain from registering in back-to-back workshops. Check our Preschool Age Calendar in August or January for the next Playgroup series.

Family Place Library Play Space

The Play Space includes:

  • A writing station
  • Puzzles and toys including a block table
  • Play kitchen and laundry area
  • Tips for parents on the walls
  • A shelf with parenting books on the top and board books on the bottom
