Carrollton Resident Cards
Carrollton residents are eligible for a free Carrollton Public Library card to check out physical items, borrow digital materials such as eBooks, book rooms, access databases, and more!
Requirements:
- 18 or older to apply on own
- Parents or legal guardians must apply for cards for their children under 18
- Non-expired government-issued photo ID
- Proof of your CURRENT address if NOT correct on your license or ID

Non-Resident Cards
Paid Non-Resident Cards
Carrollton Public Library charges a nonrefundable annual fee for Texan applicants who do not live in Carrollton but wish to obtain a library card.

- Card Cost: $40 per year
- Replacement Card Fee: $1 (card still only valid until original expiration date)
- Card Issue Term: 1 year

- A resident of the City of Farmers Branch may get a free card.

- A staff member at a public, private, or charter school within Carrollton city limits may get a free card.

How to Get a Card
You can apply in person at the Service Desk or online.
- Apply online
- Bring your government-issued photo ID with alternate proof of address if necessary to the service desk at either Library location within 2 weeks of applying
Accepted Proof of Address
- Valid (non-expired) Texas Driver License or ID with CURRENT Texas address
- Valid (non-expired) Driver License or photo ID issued by a governmental agency with non-current address plus one of the following in paper or digital form* with your name and current Texas address:
- Lease
- Recent utility bill (water, electric, gas, cable, etc.)
- Car or motorcycle insurance card
- Home or renter's insurance policy
- Recent bank statement
- Recent paycheck stub
- Voter registration card
*All secondary proof of address must be non-expired or dated within the current or last month.
Cards for Children
Parents/Legal Guardians
A parent or legal guaridan can apply for a library card for a child under 18. Parents and legal guardians are responsible for all materials checked out and money owed on the child's card.
- Child must be present during the application process.
- Parent/legal guardian must be present with proof of residency at the current home address.
- Parent/legal guardian must be present to renew card when it expires
Grandparents
Only parents or legal guardians can sign up a minor child for a Library card.
Are you this child’s legal guardian?
If not, grandparents or other caregivers are encouraged to sign up for a card for themselves and then check out items for use by the children in their care.
Card Issue Period
All cards are issued for a 1-year period before they expire except TexShare cards which are issued for 6 months.
Cards not renewed one year after the expiration date are removed from the system unless there is money owed for damaged or lost materials.
Email reminders are sent to anyone who provided an email for their account and whose card was not able to be automatically renewed.
Renewing Expired Cards
Automatic Card Renewal
Library cards for adults living in Carrollton will be automatically renewed if residence at the address listed in the account can be verified by Patron Point Verify™, an online identity checking toolset.
The Library account must have an email address to qualify for automatic card renewal.
You will keep using the SAME card unless you have lost it.

Add the address to your mail's contacts or allowed list to ensure you are notified if your card is automatically renewed or for card expiration reminder notices.
Any Carrollton resident whose address could not be verified, and all other cardholders, must follow the in-person card renewal procedure.
In-Person Card Renewal
Renewals can be done inside or at the drive-up window. We cannot accept payment at the window.

- Make your annual payment to renew your card inside the Library OR online after visiting the window.
There will be a delay after paying online before you can use the card, ranging from a few minutes to a few days.

- Pay fees totaling $10 or more online before coming to the window OR pay inside when you renew your card.
You will keep using the SAME card unless you have lost it.
What Is Needed to Renew
- Valid (non-expired) government-issued photo ID
- Proof of CURRENT address if not correct on ID
If no valid (non-expired) government-issued ID or proof of address is available, then the account CANNOT be renewed.
Lost Library Cards
Report lost Library cards IMMEDIATELY to prevent others from using YOUR card to check out without your permission.
- Call the Library at 972-466-4800
- Submit Library Card and Account Help form
- Choose "Lost or stolen Library card "as the Type of Account Problem or Question
If you do not find the card, then you will need to get a replacement card.
A replacement card costs $1 and protects you from someone else finding your card, checking items out, not returning the items, and leaving you with the bill!
Library staff can verify if you have a Library card in the system based on identifying information provided over the phone or from your photo ID but may not give you the card number.
