Park Closures and Public Safety Alerts

Severe weather, including snow, ice, and high winds, may require temporary closures of City leisure services facilities.

During dangerous weather conditions, the public should limit driving to help reduce accidents, falls, and other weather-related incidents.

To support public safety advisories, the following leisure services facilities may close temporarily.

Closure Announcements

Closure announcements are shared differently on weekdays and weekends.

Weekdays: City facility closures, including leisure services facilities, are announced on local television and radio stations.

Tune in to these stations for public service announcements:

  • Television: 5 (KXAS/NBC), 8 (WFAA/ABC), 11 (KTVT/CBS), 4 (KDFW), 33 (KDAF/FOX)
  • Radio: KRLD (1080 AM), WBAP (820 AM), KLIF (570 AM)

Weekends: Public safety and City officials evaluate road conditions and determine closure schedules by 6 a.m. and or 1 p.m. during inclement weather.

Automated phone messages about inclement weather operating schedules are recorded when conditions require updates.

Important Customer Information

  • Check with recreation instructors about make-up dates for classes canceled because of weather closures.
  • City leisure facilities may close early when road conditions are hazardous.
  • Public meetings and programs scheduled in community meeting rooms are canceled when facilities are closed.
  • All programs and classes are canceled when facilities are closed or operating on limited hours.
