The Citizen Police Academy is Back!
The Citizen Police Academy is a great way to learn about your Police Department and its officers. This program is presented at no cost to Carrollton citizens. The classes are taught by Carrollton Police Officers who share the knowledge of their particular expertise. It's a great opportunity to learn everything you've always wanted to know about the police, law enforcement, and criminal activity.
Attendance and Curriculum
Participants must fill out an application for admission and be at least 21 years of age to participate. You must be a Carrollton resident and have no felony convictions. Please submit applications to Judy.Lyle@CityofCarrollton.com. After a screening check, applicants will be advised if they have been accepted to the academy.
Class topics include: recruiting and hiring practices, legal issues, gang information, narcotics investigations, traffic crash investigation, crime scene investigation and many more interesting law enforcement subjects. Another evening is spent at the firing range getting acquainted with the members of the Tactical and K-9 teams. Police participants are generous with their time and are willing to answer questions.
The classes are held once a week for 14 total weeks on Wednesday nights at the Carrollton Police Department, located at 2025 E. Jackson Road. The sessions are interactive and include demonstrations as well as class participation in scenario situations. All materials are provided and there is no cost for participation. You do not have to attend every session, however, a minimum of 70% attendance is required for graduation.
How Does Citizen Police Academy Benefit Citizens?
The Citizen Police Academy acquaints and educates residents of our city with the duties and responsibilities of their police officers and how you can help keep our city safe.
Graduates of the Citizen Police Academy also make up the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association. Alumni are involved in on-going projects and events involving the department and the association itself.
