2021 City Election
The City of Carrollton will hold elections on May 1, 2021 for voters to consider Charter Amendments and elect City Councilmembers for:
Council Places 1, 3, 5, and 7 are elected at-large, but must reside within the boundaries of their respective Place. For a detailed boundary map, click here. For an interactive Voting Map for the City of Carrollton, click here.
Informational Packets for candidates interested in running for an open council seat will be available in the City Secretary's Office located on the second floor of City Hall. Applications and filing documents will be accepted by the City Secretary's Office during regular City Hall business hours. On the last day of filing (February 12), the City Secretary will be in the office to accept applications until 5:00pm.

Qualifications
Qualifications to serve in the City of Carrollton are listed in Section 2.02 of the City Charter.

Qualified voter of the City of Carrollton

Must reside in the state of Texas for at least 1 year

Must reside in Carrollton, or in an area within the corporate limits of Carrollton, for at least 6 months
-
Shall hold no other public office (except that of a notary public or member of the National Guard or armed services)

Not in arrears in payment of any taxes or other liability due to the City

City Council Structure
The City of Carrollton is a Home Rule municipality with a council-manager form of government. The City Council is made up of a Mayor and seven councilmembers. All members of the Council are elected at-large and serve three-year staggered terms. They are community volunteers who meet in regular meetings twice a month. The role of the Mayor and City Council is to enact local legislation, provide vision for the future of Carrollton, set policy, and hire a City Manager.
